What is the HSK Chinese test?
The Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kăoshì (HSK), (Chinese: 汉语水平考试), or Chinese Proficiency Test is a test for non-native Chinese speakers to test their proficiency at the language. The test is delivered in the Simplified Chinese characters. The HSK exam includes reading, writing, and speaking aspects in order to judge one's mastery of the content. There are six tiered versions of the test. Each tier of the test increases in difficulty. When one passes a tier of the HSK, the applicant will receive a certificate of completion for that tier. More information about the HSK Chinese test can be seen here.
Study Tools for the HSK Chinese Test
Each tier of the HSK has multiple vocabulary words that need to be mastered in order to succeed. The lower levels of the test only require about 150 words. However, it only increases from there. Levels five and six require 600-900 characters to be mastered.
To master the HSK you need to master the vocabulary on the test. We've logged all the words necessary for each tier and have them in both list and flash card form below. In our study tools below, each level of the HSK has been divided into sections of about thirty words. The goal is to break the large amount of vocabulary into manageable chunks to be studied. In the future we may consider adding games and proficiency tests to aid your progress so stay tuned for that!
It is important to note that mastery of the vocabulary is only one part of the test. One must also master the grammar and spoken aspects of the language in order to pass the HSK. Thus, this library of learning resources should be used as merely a supplement to your broader studies.
We hope these tools can help you to study and master the HSK!
